Test Results

To test the diffusion and therapeutic release rate, 15 loaded chitosan-coated alginate beads were placed in a 2 pH lemon juice, and another 15 beads were placed in neutral pH water. An equal amount of ordinary calcium alginate beads were placed in the same environment. The time it took for the therapeutics to completely diffuse out of the beads, and the time it took for the beads to completely break down were observed. A video of this test and approximate time measurements that will be posted later.

Tests will be repeated with < 1 pH HCl solution in place of 2 pH lemon juice to more accurately simulate a gastric environment.
